Batik is an age-old craft of wax-resist dyeing and printing which is believed to have been practiced in countries like Egypt, Japan, and India for over 2000 years. In India, Batik is practiced in various places such as Shantiniketan, Mundra, Mandvi, Ujjain and Injambakkam. The art of hand painted Batik flourishes in Ujjain where the village of Bherugarh has many households involved in various stage of this craft. This saree is a part of the heritage series of India curated by Kusuma, crafted on handloom Maheshwari cotton silk. This saree displays a postal stamp depicting the 75th anniversary of first aerial post and the red-painted Chennai General Post Office that was inaugurated in 1884 in the characteristic of the Indo-Saracenic style.
