Pedana style of kalamkari involves vegetable dyed block printing of a fabric. It is produced at Pedana, nearby town of Machlipatnam in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh. It is also known as Machlipatnam kalamkari and is GI tagged. This style of art evolved during the rule of Mughal dynasty and was practised by the Golcunda Sultanate. The Machlipatnam style of kalamkari is different from the Srikalasti style in terms of artisanship. Pedana artisanas use vegetable dyes which are applied on to the fabric using wooden blocks.
